What is Mental Health First Aid Response?

Mental Health First Response is the initial help given to someone that is in experiencing a Mental Health crisis. This training programme aims at giving employees and employers the skills that they may need to respond to a Mental Health Emergency that an employee or colleague is experiencing . It will teach the MHFR’s how to assist people who are developing a Mental Health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing problem or are in a Mental Health crisis, until professional help is received.

Legislation on mental health in the workplace
As an employer, you have a duty of care to protect your staff’s wellbeing. This includes dealing with mental health in the workplace.

Under the Employment Equality Act (2015), you must protect the health, safety, and welfare of your staff. And this includes physical, mental, and emotional health.

• Common Mental Health conditions including depression, anxiety disorders, panic disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders and post traumatic stress disorders

• Signs of individual who uses harmful coping strategies

• Ways to improve Mental Health and Well Being
• Helping to guide the person to the correct supports available
